June Featured Artist: Kay Chapman Designs
Kay Chapman uses natural fibers such as silk, cotton, linen and wool in her one of a kind and limited edition clothing since they take the dye so beautifully and all have a wonderful hand. Her work has become a perennial staple in Hands On as she is constantly reinventing her classic and timeless looks.
The fabric is stretched onto a frame where dyes and design are applied by hand. The piece is then steamed to set the dye, washed to remove any excess, and is then ready to be made into the desired garment.
One of Kay’s creations becomes that go-to piece in the closet that makes one feel good and is just fun to wear. She loves color, texture and line, combining them to create designs that can go from subtle to bold.
“My inspiration often comes from architecture, nature and travels.”
Fabric is the canvas for her original artwork.
“My goal is to create clothing that flatters the body and is timeless.”
